It is the twentieth year after the reign of Edward the Elder, King of Mercia. That King was deposed and the kingdom is now ruled by Queen Astrid, aided by the Great Wizard, Wyatt.
The land of Britainnia is vast, and it is with this land that Mercia lies, surrounded by various other kingdoms - the kingdom of York to the north, the kingdom of East Anglia to the east, the kingdom of Wessex the south, and the kingdom of Cymru to the west. The kingdoms are split into various fiefdoms ruled by dukes; with local yeomen ruling the smaller settlements and estates.
Most areas have interchangeable copper and gold coins, with silver coins often being the preferred currency from strangers. The official religion centers on the Emporer Across the Sea and his son, the King of the Beasts, the Talking Lion known as Aslan. Other various religions are also practiced openly, with some being introduced from travellers from far, distant lands.
Much can happen in such a land. Right now the northern territories are in near open revolt, and there is a call for heroes and adventurers to defeat a mighty evil that has terrorized Mercia for many years, which has ravaged many settlements and demanded outrageous sacrifices in appeasement. No experience is necessary, as all will be given aid and guidance in their quest.
